Internal job posting refers to the practice of announcing and inviting applications for vacancies as and when they arise. Whenever a new position is created or a replacement is needed, the HR department first looks for a possible candidate in the existing employee population and if a suitable candidate is found, the position will be staffed by the internal candidate only. External search is the last option. Internal job posting can be done either by way of having a separate section on the company intranet for the same or by way of weekly/monthly newsletters. Jobs can also be advertized using notice/bulletin boards. There are many inherent advantages for an IJP. From a compensation perspective, an internally staffed vacancy will prove to be more cost-effective. Almost all of the recruitment expenses are also saved. Besides this, there will be lesser investment in training, learning & development of the employee since he is already part of the system. He/she can be put on higher expectations of performance excellence and execution effectiveness sooner.
