Innovation and creativity must be inherent in the very DNA of the organizational work-culture. In fact these two qualities are essential to maintain a competitive edge in the market. The execution challenge is to make every employee imbibe this as part of the way he/she works.
Innovation and creativity refers to a thinking process or an attitude which constantly seeks out new ways of improving the value proposition in the work-processes. This value proposition can be in the form of a better output for the customer or it can be in an internal improvement which results in a reduction of cost or wastage. Imagination and a will to create new and different ways for improvement lend themselves to the standard and routine processes as well. Simply finding a new way of reducing the amount effort which is expended while keeping the output same is also an application of innovation and creativity. Product and Marketing are two departments where these qualities are absolutely essential. HR & Training departments must ensure together that special programs are launched to foster these qualities in all the employees and their attitude and approach towards performance and execution excellence. Learning & Development plays a big role in this.
