Job Fit Assessment
Job fit assessment is a very crucial and sensitive matter and one which requires considerable expertise and experience. It is easy to filter out absolute misfits, but care should be taken that following only the job-description and not using individual judgment may also lead to omitting genuine and authentic talent in the process.
Job fit assessment refers to the process of assessing the overall profile of the candidate and looking for possible match-points in it and the job-role. This generally happens in the face-to-face interview and where the recruiter can get an accurate idea of the candidate and the kind of education and experience he/she is carrying. It is the recruiter's responsibility to judge and assess, out of his/her own experience and maturity as to whether the candidate will be able to deliver a successful performance as per the job requirements. Needless to mention the job-description becomes a very important document here. Although, as a rule of thumb, candidates having similar or same experience may turn out to be better matches most of the time, it is equally important for the recruiter to assess a bright, intelligent and genuine candidate thoroughly even though he/she may not be carrying a similar experience. Any good manager or recruiter always knows that good talent is not that easy to find and a genuine candidate's abilities can be applied in other domains as well. What is paramount is the execution abilities. Recruiters from HR need to be especially aware of this fact as they generally do not tend to have detailed knowledge of the main line job function.
