Goals form the major bulk of the expectations from the employee. Hence in the performance assessment process, it is paramount that the appraiser provides a focused feedback to the appraisee about this main deliverable of the appraisee.

Focused feedback on goals implies that the appraiser spends a focused session discussing the performance of the appraisee on only goals. Goals are the major bulk of the immediate business deliverable and hence are the ‘meat and potatoes’ part of the employee’s responsibilities. Hence, each goal and the employee’s performance on each is discussed and evaluated in detail. A detailed and authentic feedback is likely to generate inputs on learning and development aspects too for the employee.
